There are 3 campgrounds inside the park, Chekika, Flamingo, and Long Pine Key. Everglades National Park offers a wonderful camping opportunity in both the frontcountry and the backcountry. camping is available year round. In the frontcountry there are two drive-in campgrounds, Long Pine Key and Flamingo. Both contain a place for RV's and tents. In the backcountry there are a number of ground sites, beach sites, and elevated camping platforms. Most sites are able to get to by canoe, kayak, or boat, though few can be reached by hikers. A backcountry permit is obligatory for all wilderness campsites and is issued the day before or the day of your trip.
The frontcountry fees and reservations at Long Pine Key: it has 108 drive-up sites that are available on a first-come first-serve basis. Sites are $16 ($8 for senior/ access pass holders) per night. Flamingo has 235 drive-up sites available. The price of the site per night is the same as Long Pine Key but reservations are highly recommended. Reservations are not needed during summer. There are 41 sites with electricity, they cost $30 per night ($15 for seniors/ access pass holders). These fees apply to anyone using sites, regardless of whether or not they use electricity. Backcountry camping fees: a permit is required. April- November 16th wilderness permits are free, obtainable by self-registration at the Gulf Coast and Flamingo visitor center. November 17th- April $10 per permit plus $2 per person per night but has a maximum of 14 days. You must register and receive a backcountry camping permit at either the Gulf Coast or Flamingo area of the park at least a day in advance.
